MAD BULDOGS stay in the Regionalliga

The Amberg Mad Bulldogs will remain in the Regionalliga. This was decided yesterday by the Games and Sports Committee of the Bavarian American Football Association at its meeting regarding the 2025 Regionalliga.

The Amberg Mad Bulldogs' management is extremely relieved. After many weeks of waiting, it's clear: The TV 1881 Amberg football players will get a second chance and remain in the Regionalliga, Germany's third-highest football league. After a less-than-stellar 2024 season, which the DAWGS finished last in the table, the Amberg team should have been promoted to the Bayernliga. However, the newly promoted team, the Munich Cowboys 2, decided not to take their rightful place in the Regionalliga and to remain in the Bayernliga for strategic reasons. This cleared the way for a replacement.

In this case, the AFVBY regulations stipulate that the relegated team has priority for the vacant spot. Nevertheless, the association has now taken a closer look. The Mad Bulldogs essentially meet all the requirements for a Regionalliga license, but they do not fully comply with the so-called "obligation to provide referees." Therefore, the Games and Sports Committee also took a closer look at the application from the "Hemhofen Gechers" and considered the team as a replacement. However, the Amberg team was able to convince in this comparison with more referees and more active youth teams and was awarded the contract.

I'm especially happy for the players who fought until the last minute last season despite difficult circumstances – and for all the new coaches and players who have chosen the Amberg Mad Bulldogs despite the uncertainty of the past few weeks. We will do everything we can to make the 2025 season even more successful! Head Coach Dany Emmanuell

Emmanuel has already laid the groundwork for the 2025 season: The coaching staff has been completely restructured and massively expanded, new players have been recruited and are already participating in training. Furthermore, the contract with the first true import player in the team's history is about to be signed.

The fact that the association, in its decision, recognizes our efforts in youth work and also acknowledges our efforts to train referees is a validation of our work across the entire department. Michael Sandner, Head of Department

That is why these efforts are being intensified – for example with the official launch of a Tackle U19 team as a joint team with a neighboring club in Upper Palatinate (further information to follow).

Preparations for the new season are already in full swing, with training beginning in early November. The first home game of the 2025 season is expected to take place in late April/early May 2025.
