Yesterday, we finally got back to what it's all about: football. Playing at home in Schanzl, we ultimately suffered a clear 7-57 defeat against the Nuremberg Hawks.
The game on Sunday afternoon started quite promisingly. We got off to a good start and managed to put our first 7 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter. But Nuremberg's response was swift – they immediately countered with 14 points. From the second quarter onward, the visitors completely took control of the game. It became apparent that our new quarterback, Devon Le Sure, had only had two training sessions with the team before kickoff – naturally, the fine-tuning of the offense still needs some time. Nuremberg ruthlessly exploited this adjustment period, increasing their lead by another 20 points, and the score at halftime was 7-34.

Unfortunately, we couldn't find an effective way to break the visitors' pressure in the second half either. Nuremberg finished their drives in the third (10 points) and fourth quarters (13 points) with practiced ease. A look at the statistics shows that it wasn't due to a lack of discipline; both teams incurred exactly 60 yards in penalties. The Hawks were simply superior to us yesterday in terms of skill and execution. As fair sportsmen, we have to acknowledge that.
Such a clear defeat is naturally painful. But what we take away most from this matchday is that the character of this team is absolutely spot on. Despite the changes and the turmoil of the last few days, the team is sticking together both on and off the pitch – we haven't lost a single player or any additional coach.
This unity is our foundation. We accept the sporting lessons from this game, give Devon and the offense the necessary time in practice to gel, and work with full focus on our mistakes.
