Die Footballer der Amberg Mad Bulldogs treten am kommenden Sonntag gegen die Nürnberg Rams an. Zum Start in die Regionalliga steht somit gleich ein hochkarätiges Spiel an – denn die die Franken haben ihre sportlichen Ziele in diesem Jahr hochgesteckt.
Das erste Spiel der Season, ein Freundschaftsspiel gegen die Neumarkt Wolves aus der Bayernliga, konnten die DAWGS vor ein paar Wochen noch haushoch gewinnen – aber ganz so einfach wird es wohl am kommenden Sonntag nicht werden. Denn die Nürnberg Rams gelten in der Regionalliga als extrem ambitioniert, mit einem klaren Ziel vor Augen: Aufstieg in die GFL 2. Dafür haben sich die Nürnberger während der Offseason ordentlich verstärkt und viele neue Spieler und Coaches in ihr Team integriert.
Angst macht das den Ambergern aber keineswegs. Denn das Team rund um Headcoach Dany Emmanuel hat schon oft beweisen, dass es vermeintlich stärkere Teams teils deutlich schlagen kann oder ihnen den Sieg erst in aller letzte Sekunde zu überlassen. Das sportliche Ziel der Amberger ist von einer guten Portion Realität geprägt: die Mad Bulldogs wollen sich im Vergleich zum Vorjahr deutlich verbessern und sich in der dritthöchsten deutschen Spielklasse als feste Größe etablieren. Vielleicht können die Amberger diese Entspanntheit nutzen und erneut für eine Touchdown-Party sorgen.
„Unser Team ist heiß auf das oberpfälzisch-fränkische Duell. Die Vorbereitung in der Offseason lief sehr gut, das erste Spiel hat uns nochmal einen extra Motivationsschub gegeben – das gilt es jetzt zu nutzen und die Widder aus Nürnberg bei den Hörnern zu packen.“ sagt Headcoach Emmanuel.
Doch wie immer bei den Gamedays der Mad Bulldogs erwartet die Zuschauer mehr als nur ein hochkarätiges Footballspiel: in diesem Jahr steht jeder Spieltag unter einem besonderen Motto. Der kommenden Sonntag wird zum „America Day“ mit Foodtrucks und einer Halftimeshow mit Linedance. Außerdem kann sich jeder Besucher in der neuen Tryout-Area selbst mal als Quaterback, Reciever oder Offense-Spieler versuchen. Und auch am Merch-Stand gibt es einiges neues – zum Beispiel neue T-Shirtmotive. Kickoff ist um 15 Uhr, die Tore öffnen sich bereits eine Stunde vorher.

Amberg MAD BULLDOGS expect tough game against the Nürnberg Rams
The footballers of the Amberg Mad Bulldogs will face the Nürnberg Rams next Sunday. The start of the regional league will be a high-caliber game - because the Franconians have set their sporting goals high this year.
The DAWGS won the first game of the season, a friendly against the Neumarkt Wolves from the Bayernliga, a few weeks ago - but it won't be quite that easy next Sunday. The Nürnberg Rams are considered to be extremely ambitious in the regional league, with a clear goal in mind: promotion to GFL 2. To achieve this, the Nurembergers have strengthened their squad considerably during the offseason and integrated many new players and coaches into their team.
But that doesn't scare the Ambergers at all. After all, the team led by head coach Dany Emmanuel has often proven that it can beat supposedly stronger teams, sometimes by a wide margin, or only concede victory to them at the very last second. Amberg's sporting goal is characterized by a good dose of reality: the Mad Bulldogs want to improve significantly compared to last year and establish themselves as a permanent fixture in Germany's third-highest division. Perhaps the Ambergers can take advantage of this relaxed attitude and ensure another touchdown party.
“Our team is fired up for the Upper Palatinate-Franconian clash. The preparation in the offseason went very well, the first game has given us an extra boost of motivation - now we have to use that and take the rams from Nuremberg by the horns,” says Head Coach Emmanuel.
But as always with the Mad Bulldogs' Gamedays, spectators can expect more than just a top-class football game: this year, each matchday has a special theme. Next Sunday will be “America Day” with food trucks and a half-time show with line dancing. Visitors can also try their hand at being a quarterback, receiver or offense player in the new tryout area. And there are also some new things at the merch stand - for example new T-shirt designs. Kickoff is at 3 p.m., with the gates opening an hour earlier.
